Position Summary and Job Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Lead System Engineer is responsible for overall creation or derivation and management of system or subsystem requirements, definition of requirements verification strategies and techniques, development and documentation of the system or subsystem architecture and design, management of integration, and execution of test, verification, and/or validation.  This is typically in a leadership role of a technical team.

The relevant product domain is military flight simulation for training, to include aircraft/avionics simulation, synthetic environments, weapons and sensors simulation, and data collection/debriefing systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyze a system-level specification and derive subsystem or component requirements, in collaboration with a Prime Contractor and End-User Customer. Contribute to an overall Requirements Traceability Verification Matrix or other requirements tracking document.
  • Present requirements analysis results in major design reviews, such as SRR with updates at PDR and CDR.
  • Develop, or collaborate with a design team to develop, an overall system or subsystem architecture and allocate functional requirements to design elements.
  • Present designs at PDR and CDR and achieve customer acceptance.
  • Collaborate with a software development team to implement designs and ensure compliance with the system design to achieve requirements.
  • Develop test plans and procedures; execute or manage execution of tests and documentation of results.
  • Support final customer acceptance through verification and/or validation.
Required and/or Preferred Qualifications
  • Required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or computer-related field, with a preference for Computer Science or Computer Engineering
    • 10 years’ experience in military flight simulation component and system design
    • 10 years’ experience in System Engineering functions (requirements analysis/management, system design, testing/verification/validation)
    • Experience effectively leading an engineering team
    • Proven ability to apply engineering principles to solve technical problems and implement solutions
    • Excellent communications skills (written & oral) with the ability to work in a team environment and make effective presentations to teammates and customers
    • Working knowledge of software engineering processes
    • Knowledge of DoD cybersecurity practices
    • US citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD security clearance

 

  • Preferred
    • Master’s degree in electrical, aerospace, computer, or system engineering or computer science
    • Experience with the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) protocol
    • Experience with the Next Generation Threat Simulation (NGTS) or a similar environment simulation
    • Experience performing Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE)
    • Familiarity with the military aviation domain
    • Experience in an Agile development methodology
    • Familiarity with data analysis and/or visualization techniques and tools
    • Active DoD security clearance
